HAPPY NEW YEAR - HAPPY NEW BABY!!!

2015 has arrived and with it the promises I make to myself to to things better. Eat better, be more active, be more creative, be better about posting what I create, etc. So it is now the 4th of January and I want to share a card I made yesterday to celebrate the birth of my new great-nephew, Ellis, who was born last night at 6:33 p.m. Welcome to the world Ellis!!

The idea is not an original. I saw something similar on Pinterest (I think) but thought it was so cute I wanted to make one myself. The original used a Teddy Bear popping out of the dresser drawer and an image by Mo Manning of a child dressing itself. After spending hours looking though my stamps and online through images of babies, I came to the sad conclusion I would have to either draw my own or pay money for an image I would probably only use one time. So, I drew the image of the sitting baby and colored it using Copics.

I personally think every little boy needs a puppy, so instead of the teddy bear sticking out of the dresser drawer, I found an image in my stamp stash of this cute little patchwork puppy. The original card used white brads for the drawer pulls, but I liked the idea of the little buttons. A little designer paper for the dresser front and the wall behind the baby - and it was finished. I love the way the cuts and folds to the card make it stand up. Too cute.

Until Next Time -
God Bless & happy stamping!

DIABETES, FLOODS & CAR ACCIDENTS

Catchy Title??? This has been my week which is why there haven't been any cards to post - or time to post for that matter!

The week started with a trip to the ER with my hubby where we found out that he is diabetic! Hello??? He is overweight but this came completely out of left field as his sugar level has always been normal. Not this time however. Instead of the normal 80-120 that it should be - he was at 853!!! Doc said he could have died. They gave him insulin and sent him home later with medication. Wednesday night was a repeat ER visit - only the sugar level was half of the original reading. More insulin, they fed him this time and sent him home with a reading of 469. The numbers are gradually coming down - 306 this a.m. which has been the lowest. It has been a little scary - it has forced some lifestyle changes for both of us - but we are grateful that God was watching over him as always and allowed us more time together.

I planned to use this weekend to clean house and get in some play time on Saturday afternoon - however you know what they say about the best laid plans. The phone rang at 8 a.m. on Saturday. It was my niece telling us that her brother had been in a car accident earlier in the morning and was in the hospital awaiting surgery. So off we went to the hospital where we find him in this condition:

Cut above his left eye, broken left elbow, broken left femur (thighbone), broken left patella (knee), broken left tibia (shin) and badly sprained left ankle. This is the result of working late, then visiting a friend, FALLING ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL and WRAPPING ONESELF AROUND A TREE! Again we give thanks that the Lord spared his life and allowed us to have him with us without any major permanent damage.

The week ended with flood waters in our basement and an SOS from a friend due to flood waters in her basement. We decided hers took priority as they had noway to get their belongings up out of the water so darling hubby went to help suck up the 4-6" of water that was standing there.

So, after an entire week of not getting to release the creative juices, I came home around 11:00 p.m. last night and created this card. It was overdue - I was having stamping withdrawal. I could take no more! I HAD TO PLAY! :)

Hope your week has been less eventful than mine - unless all of the events were happy ones.

WELCOME MY WORLD

and so it begins ... I've joined the world of the bloggers. Why? I'm not sure - other than I need an outlet for my creative pursuits - otherwise I have to bore my darling husband and son. And though they make the appropriate appreciative sounds, I'm sure they have no REAL interest in the colors I used to watercolor Santa's hat or how I used sand-paper to achieve that distressed edge on my latest card. So, to anyone that may stumble across this blog - and especially to you who have actively sought it out - thank you and welcome to my world.
